Obituary for Louise M. Darin

Passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 24, at her cottage in Mecosta, MI. Born July 22, 1927, she was the beloved wife of the late Peter C. Darin Jr and daughter of the late Frank and Alice Snider. Survived by her children: Maureen (Daniel, deceased) Sandahl, Susan (Martin) Hagan, Diane (Clifford) Lai, Martha (Karl) Kadon, Peter III (Christine), Michael (Lori). Proud grandma of Greg, Marisa, David, Caryn, John, Margaret, Claire, Teresa, Patrick, Kimberly, Matthew, Stephen, Karl IV, Kurt, Caroline, Clayton, Katherine, Christopher, Jake, Jessica, Breanna and Alex and 14 great-grandchildren: Lydia, Liam, Lily, Kerem, Elizabeth, Teoman, Alice, Virginia, Luke, Vivian, Louise, Lochlan, Henry and Lucas.

Louise was a dedicated volunteer at her daughters’ school, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, and with her husband Pete and Nancy and Jim Yaw, she helped found Kensington Academy to ensure their sons would have the same academic opportunities as their daughters.

Family was very important to Louise, second only to her strong Catholic faith. As a mother, Louise taught her children to pick berries, make jam and bake pies, and as a grandma, she delighted in playing Scrabble and doing jigsaw puzzles with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thanksgiving was always the best at Grandma’s house!

During this difficult year, Louise was grateful to be able to attend her grandson Patrick’s Ordination to the Priesthood in May, celebrate the births of 6 great-grandchildren (memorialized on her Scrabble quilt) and return to Blue Lake.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, August 1 at 10:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Road, Bloomfield Hills, 48301 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION at or to a charity of one’s choice.
