Obituary for Lois Timmer Appledorn

Lois Timmer Appledorn of Beverly Hills died peacefully January 5, 2018. She was 89 years old. Lois was born June 30, 1928 in Holland, Michigan to Esther (nee Koops) and Albert Timmer.

She attended Holland High School, Michigan State University and Hope College where she received her Bachelors degree in 1951. Lois, her husband, William, and their family lived in Holland for 10 years. While there she was a member of Hope Reformed Church where she sang in the choir. She was active in the Junior Welfare League and the Holland Branch of AAUW. Lois volunteered at Holland Hospital and served as President of its Volunteer Board.

In 1962 the family moved to Birmingham, Michigan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, a circle member, choir member, and a bell ringer. Lois was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter CO, AAUW Birmingham Branch, and several of its study groups. She was also a Camp Fire Girls’ leader, having herself earned the highest rank of social leadership, and a former member of the Child Research Center League of Michigan. Lois enjoyed music and needlework but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Lois was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Lois is survived by her children, Steven (Karen) Appledorn, James (Denise) Appledorn, and Martha (Peter) Littrup and grandchildren, Ann (Bradley) Spear, Kate Appledorn, Thomas (Kristen) Appledorn, Rebecca Appledorn, William Appledorn, Gerrit Littrup, and Gunnar Littrup. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ellora Spear and Charlotte Appledorn and her brother, Albert Timmer, II. Lois is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, William Appledorn, Jr., brother, Chester Timmer, and sister, Joyce Seaman.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday, January 11th, 3-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1669 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Friday, January 12th at 11am. A Committal Service will be held at Restlawn Cemetery in Holland, Saturday, January 13th at 1pm.
