Obituary for Leslie J. Havis

Leslie J. Havis of Troy died February 21, 2017. He was 95 years old. Mr. Havis was born May 30, 1921, in Detroit to parents Florence (nee Weldon) and Joseph Havis.

A 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ferndale, he went on to serve proudly in the United States Army during World War II. For his bravery, he was awarded two bronze stars. Professionally, he worked as a System Analyst for the Detroit News for 39 years. A devoted family man, Leslie Havis loved life and was a soldier to the end. He will be deeply missed.

Mr. Havis is survived by his children, Thomas Havis, Carol (Michael) Downes, John (Hollie Dale) Havis, and Gail Glick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrea Havis, Brian Downes, Erin (Tim) Reimer, Julie Glick, and Emily Glick, and one great-granddaughter, Ila Reimer. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Grace Alice Bruns, Betty Cadiux, and Jack Havis, as well as his beloved wife of 51 years, Jean.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (Between 14 & 15 Mile Rds.), Friday at 11am. Friends may visit Thursday 3-8pm. Committal services and military honors will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
