Obituary for Lawrence A. Smith

Lawrence A. Smith of Bloomfield Hills died October 2, 2016. He was 95 years old. Lawrence was born April 9, 1921 in Detroit to Esther (nee Foster) and William Smith.
He graduated from Cooley High School in 1939 and Wayne State University in 1943.

Lawrence enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served honorably as 1st Lieutenant until 1946 and immediately continued in the Army Reserve until 1953. He graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1950 and was the corporate attorney for Electro-Finishing Industries until his retirement in 1983.

Lawrence was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham, a member of the Senior Men’s Club of Birmingham and an avid golfer, bowler and tennis player.

Lawrence is survived by his children, Douglas (Cheryl) Smith and Marianne Ganiard. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Meagan (Matthew) Moehlenhoff, Thomas Ganiard, Jr., Kelsey Smith, and Margaret Ganiard and great-granddaughter, Kaydin-Olivia Smith. Lawrence is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Baxter Smith, parents William and Esther Smith, sisters, Esther and Lillian, and brothers, William, Roy, Norman, and Leslie.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 355 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Saturday, October 8th at 11am.
