Obituary for Lawrence F. Tracey

Lawrence Francis Tracey died June 18, 2019. He was 86 years old. Larry was born July 18, 1932 in Detroit to Lawrence Vincent Tracey and Rita David. Lawrence Vincent Tracey was the son of Irish immigrants (Galway)and Rita David was a native of Buckingham, Quebec.

Larry grew up in East Detroit and attended both Roseville and Detroit Catholic Central High Schools and graduated from Butler University with a degree in Economics. Larry’s mother died in 1947 and his father in 1949. Larry married Joan Claire Fleming on June 25th, 1960 in Regina Saskatchewan and they had three children, Maura Claire, Lawrence Fleming and Sean Patrick. Larry and Joan divorced in 1978.

Larry married Judith “Judy” Anne Younger in 1979 in Troy, Michigan. Judy has three children, Tracey Forbes, Fiona (Kevin) Coyne and Robert Forbes. Larry was a warrant officer in the United States Air Force and after being honorably discharged was employed for the bulk of his career with the Burroughs Corporation (later Unysis) in Detroit.

Larry loved his dogs Holly, Holly II and Molly. He was with also very active and donated his time to ARC (association of retarded citizens), Kirk in the Hills, Troy Nature Center, and the Troy Public Library. He enjoyed his work with the under-privileged in literacy programs in Detroit and was a long time volunteer at election centers. Larry loved spending time Up North and in Ireland. Larry and Judy enjoyed traveling and visiting children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and spending time with their many friends.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Judy, daughter, Maura (Mario) de Bellis, sons, Lawrence Tracey and Sean (Kari) Tracey and Judy’s children, Tracey Forbes (Vincent Sabatino), Fiona (Kevin) Coyne, and Robert (Michelle) Forbes. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carlotta, Domenico, Lyndsy (Lance) Walters, Lexie, Gianna (Sam), Gabriela (Paul), Lindsey and Lily, great-grandchildren, Rory, Francis, and Jacqueline, brother, Richard (Anne) Tracey and nieces, Jennifer Tracey and Colleen Tracey. Larry is preceded in death by his nephew, Michael Tracey.

Maura, Lawrence and Sean want to thank our step-sister, Fiona Coyne and her husband Kevin for their constant and selfless help over the past several years as our dad began to age. She has truly been an angel to our father.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday, June 21st, 4-8pm with prayers at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 2345 Coolidge, Troy, Saturday, June 22nd at 12 noon. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11:30am.
