Obituary for Larry Hessen

Charles �Larry� Hessen, of Royal Oak, died Sunday, July 24, 2011. He was 76 years old. Mr. Hessen was was born June 25, 1935, to Louis and Alma (nee DeGeldere) Hessen in Detroit.

Mr. Hessen was a long-time circulation employee at the Detroit Free Press. He was an avid golfer, a semi-pro bowler and an all-around sport fan. He enjoyed traveling. Mr. Hessen also took meticulous care of his yard, and loved to listen to Tigers games while tending to the flowers in his yard. His love of his family outshined all his other interests in his life. He loved family gatherings where he could dote over his grandchildren.

He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara (nee Hendrickson); children Greg (Denise), Lynne (John) Cobb, Kevin (Terri), Stacey (Pete) Tikkanen and Keith (Margie). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer, Gregory, Rachel, David, Daniel, Leah, Jacob, Joshua, Sydney, Luke, Sam, Hannah, Ryan and Kathryn; and great-granddaughters Sarah and Alexis; his brother, Michael (Rosie) and sister, Karen Nichols; his aunt, Rachel Hessen, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws; and Ken, Jeff, Debbie and Chuck, his children from a previous marriage. He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sharon, and his parents.

Visitation at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1800 W. Maple, Birmingham, Wednesday 4 - 8pm. Funeral Thursday 11am. Friends may vsisit beginning at 10:30am.

Memorials appreciated to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or the Alzheimer�s Association.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks for the compassion and care given by the ICU and Hospice staff at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
