Obituary for Kenneth Shorty Glaser

Ken Shorty Glaser died at his home in Royal Oak, January 5, 2012. He was 70 years old. Ken was born January 27, 1941, in Detroit, to Christine (nee Kirschenieter) and John Glaser. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Radio Operator (E-5) from February of 1958 to May of 1961. Ken had a successful career at American Federal Savings Bank, where he was the Manager of the Clawson branch for many years. Because he produced a high volume of mortgage loans, he later became the District Manager. As a very successful Mortgage Broker, Ken later founded his own company, Merit Mortgage in Southfield. He enjoyed bar tending at Four Green Irish Pub in Royal Oak and was a member of the Clawson Lions Club for many years.

Ken married Nancy Krzywdzinski on November 14, 1992 and they resided in Royal Oak, Michigan. Together they enjoyed life and were best friends. They were soul mates! They traveled to many places. Nothing was more important than just being with each other.

Ken loved to play cards, but especially to beat you. He belonged to the "Bandits" Card Club, where gin rummy was the game. Ken was an excellent backgammon player too. He also loved golf and did experience a "Hole in One", for which he was very proud.

What you saw is what you got with Ken. He had many dear friends and there are countless funny stories of his antics, just ask his nephews. Ken enjoyed life, but later the good life took its toll. He never gave up and never complained. Special thanks to Beth and Modesty with St. John Providence Hospice for their loving care and wonderfull sense of humor. As Ken would say, It is what it is.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; sister, Susan (Tom) Davis and brother, Donald (Mary) Glaser; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Gary (Jean) Krzywdzinski, Sherry (David) Courville, and Robert (Marietta) Krzywdzinski. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends. Ken is preceded in death by his brother, John Glaser and his wife Barbara Glaser.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, ATTN: Honorariums and Memorials, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025-4507 or Leader Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 5000, Rochester, Michigan 48308-5000.
