Obituary for Katharine Gillette Giese

Katharine Gillette Giese (Katie) age 59 passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021. Born March 25, 1962, Katie grew up in Birmingham, MI where she attended Academy of the Sacred Heart and went on to graduate from Marian High School in 1980. She attended Western Michigan University and graduated in 1985 from Arizona State University. Katie spent most of her adult life living in the Phoenix area working as a committed Sales Professional in the Hospitality Industry. She enjoyed over 30 years of employment with some of Arizona’s finest resorts including The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, The Ritz Carlton, The Arizona Grand Resort and The Royal Palms Resort and Spa.

Katie was the kindest, most loving mother to Carli and Sam Giese, alongside their father, her former husband, and dear friend Paul Giese. She supported her children passionately, never missing a baseball game, hockey game, gymnastics meet or art show. She was there for her children without exception, and always gave the best hugs. Katie was a patient and understanding mother who brought an infinite amount of love and joy into both Carli and Sam’s lives. They adored Katie, looked up to her, and consider themselves the luckiest kids to have had her as a mom. Katie loved both her kids deeply and was so proud of them and who they had become. She felt her children were her greatest accomplishment.

Katie is survived by her siblings Marcus (Sheila) Gillette, Mary Ricci and Alicia (Judd) Hart, and nieces and nephews Jennifer Gillette, Currie Ricci, Katy Ricci, Meghan (Jeff) Olsen, Ashley (Tyler)Warner and Tyler (Daniela)Hart. Katie is predeceased by her late mother, Alicia Hayes Gillette and father, Jeremiah Black Gillette.

Katie made and nurtured so many friendships in her personal and professional life that she held onto throughout her lifetime. She got along with everyone. People were drawn to her smile, confidence, optimism, sense of humor, and loving energy. She had this incredible ability to make people feel at ease. She was a fiercely loyal, supportive, and caring friend, never passing judgment. She was quick to laugh and always had a sparkle in her beautiful brown eyes. Her lifelong besties from childhood, Shelly Pappert Cooney, Patty Ward Becker and Kelly Kolar Eyman were ever present throughout her life and in her final days.

Friends and family may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. Clawson, MI (between 14 & 15 Mile Roads) Thursday November 11th from 2-6. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm.
