Obituary for Julie A. Diehl

Julie A. Diehl, of Birmingham, died peacefully February 2, 2017, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 66 years old. Julie was born March 23, 1950, in Detroit, to Jean (nee Taylor) and Lloyd H. Diehl, Jr.

A 1968 graduate of Marian High School, she went on to attend the Pratt Institute’s School of Art in Brooklyn, New York, and then received her BFA from the University of Texas. A talented graphic designer, Julie was a former chairwoman of Birmingham’s Art in the Park. She was also devoted to the mission of Common Ground.

She is survived by her siblings, Susan Diehl Buehler, Lloyd H. (Monica) Diehl III, and Meg Diehl Butzier. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Stephen (Laurie) Buehler, Jennifer (Tom) Ludwig, Jonathan Butzier, Jean (Chris) Cameron, and Julie (Pat) Defever, Hannah and Lloyd Henry Diehl IV. She was a proud great aunt to Madeline and William Ludwig, Leo Buehler, Bailey and Makenzie Defever, and Avery Cameron. Julie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cynthia Diehl.

A Memorial Gathering will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd., Saturday, February 11, 2-8pm.
