Obituary for Joel L. Kesler

Joel Lamar Kesler of Troy, Michigan passed away at the age of 79, on Tuesday, February 3, 2021, at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital due to diabetes complications.

Born May 20, 1941, in Sand Mountain, Alabama, to the late Irby Lee and Viola Perlina (Gibson) Kesler, the seventh of ten children.

Joel was a teacher for Hazel Park Schools for over 20 years, a football coach for Lamphere High School and a driver's training instructor for many years. Joel was known for his fun sense of humor and he had a great love for sports, particularly fishing.

Joel was preceded in death by his son, Brian Kesler and brothers, Leon, Glen and David Kesler; sisters, Rose Potts, Betty Jo Mahoney, Lavenice McKinney and Myra Cox.

Joel is survived by daughters, Deanna Yater, Kara (Kevin) Hess and Jennifer Reid; granddaughter, Olivia Hess; brothers, Aubrey and Roland Kesler, sister-in-law, Malinda Kesler and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Sunday, February 7, Noon-2pm. A private family service will follow visitation. For those unable to attend, the service will be recorded and a link to the video will be posted here by Sunday evening.

Burial will take place in Attica Cemetery, Attica, Michigan.
