Obituary for Joanne Morris Jody O'Brien

Joanne Morris O�Brien �Jody�, died peacefully at her home in Beverly Hills, July 19, 2011. Jody was born November 14, 1928, in Detroit, to Anna Frances (nee Ryan) and George Bader Morris. Jody married John J. O�Brien, August 8, 1953, at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel in Bloomfield Hills and was a life-long Detroit area resident.

Jody was an English Major at Saint Mary�s College and received her teaching certificate from the University of Detroit Mercy. She obtained her Masters Degree in Special Education from Marygrove College in 1991, and was a special education teacher for the Oakland Schools, teaching at Lamphere High School.

Jody was very active in her community. An officer and member of Christ Child Society for 57 years, Questers, Saint Mary�s College of Notre Dame Alumnae, Academy of the Sacred Heart Alumnae, Children of Mary, Ladies of Charity, Icon Dei, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Women�s Group, and a charter member of the Community House Senior Women�s Club.

Jody�s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and numerous friends. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. �Jody�s geese were always swans, which is to say she always saw the best in everyone� said her devoted husband, John.

Jody is survived by her beloved husband, Judge John J. O�Brien, and children, J.J. (Alix) O�Brien, Bridget (Mark) Bealin, Mariellen (Richard) MacKenzie, Maureen (Kevin) Anderson, Joseph O�Brien, and the late Kathryn Anne O�Brien. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Honore, Callagee, and Clare O�Brien, Meg (Keith) Richards, Mark, Ted, and Molly Bealin, Patrick, Caroline, Timothy, and Camilla MacKenzie, and Bridget, Tommy, Nora, Kevin, and Jack Anderson, great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kathryn Richards, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday 3-9pm with a rosary at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 32340 Pierce, Beverly Hills, Saturday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
