Obituary for Jane Ann Leighty

Jane Ann Leighty of Royal Oak died peacefully May 6, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was 78 years old. Jane Ann was born December 22, 1933, in Blue Island, Illinois, to Mary Catherine (nee Fawcett) and John M. Littler.

A loving, happy, generous, kind-hearted woman, Jane Ann worked for years at Beaumont Hospital as a recovery room nurse, a job that started out as a volunteer position. She was loved by her co-workers, many of whom became life-long friends, including doctors and patients.

She loved nature, spring, flowers, birds, and the outdoors. Jane Ann also loved and appreciated art, music, and poetry. She was an avid reader who kept up with current events. Jane Ann took great pride in her home and enjoyed sharing dinners and holidays there with close friends and family.

Jane Ann had a beautiful smile, an outgoing personality, and a passion for people. She loved to laugh and make others laugh and made everyone around her feel very special, loved and cared for. She was non-judgmental, kind, and generous to her friends and family. A good soul, Jane Ann loved meeting people and people who knew her loved her, even those she had only known for a little while.

Jane Ann always said she was born to be a mother and it showed in how she cared for her three daughters. She loved being a stay at home mom, always making birthdays and holidays extra special. Jane Ann would pack lunches filled with fun treats for the holidays, including St. Patricks Day. An extremely proud grandmother, it was obvious how much she enjoyed attending her grandchildrens special events including baseball games, cheerleading, and her grandsons rock concerts. She loved and cherished her family ---her daughters, her grandchildren, her sister, and her sisters family, and they loved and adored her in return.

Jane Ann felt so very blessed by her life and her family. She believed strongly that we are all children of God.

Jane Ann is survived by her daughters, Linda Beth (Michael) Shocklee, Susan Jane (Christopher) Finger, and Nancy Catherine Showers. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jimmy and Sara Jane Showers, sister, Ellen (Edward) Perry, sister-in-law, Joanne Leighty and 3 nephews. Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Leighty.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday at 5pm. Friends may visit beginning at 3pm.

Memorials appreciated to Forgotten Harvest, 21800 Greenfield, Oak Park, Michigan 48237, or Gleaners, 2131 Beaufait, Detroit, Michigan 48207
