Obituary for Jane McCollough

Jane McCollough of Troy died peacefully February 5, 2021. She was 93 years old.
Born May 1, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Floyd and Genevieve Alberts. Jane lived most of her life in Detroit, growing up with her sister Anne in the old Fort Wayne neighborhood, and surrounded by a large extended family, most of whom, like her mother, had moved to the area from Dollar Bay in the Upper Peninsula.

Jane attended Redford High School where she met Bill McCollough, and also attended the University of Detroit. She married Bill in 1949.

Jane lived a full life, enjoyed travelling and antiquing, and also became proficient at a number of hobbies including cooking, chair caning and weaving. Although she greatly enjoyed international travel with Bill, Jane really treasured family vacations in and around Michigan, especially trips to the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's U.P, and along Lake Huron in both Michigan and Ontario. They resided for several years in a home they built on Lake Huron in Harrisville, Michigan before finally returning to Birmingham, Michigan.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 65 years, William McCollough. She is survived by their 5 children, Matt (Marsha) McCollough, Martha McCollough, Maggie McCollough, Eileen (Steve) Fitz and Evelyn McCollough. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Kathryn (Brook) Long, Aaron (Laura) McCollough, Bill (Stephanie) Loupee, Matt Loupee, Ethan Fitz and Jane Fitz; 7 great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Felix and Frieda Long, Owen and Claire McCollough, and Abram, Asher and Aven Loupee, her dear brother-in-law, Dan McCollough and many beloved nieces, nephews and their families.

Jane loved her family and will be dearly missed. She will rest with Bill at Mt. Elliott Cemetery in Detroit, and a private family memorial service will be arranged later.

Memorials may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mount Elliot Street, Detroit, Michigan 48207.
