Obituary for James Louis Gerback

James Louis Gerback of Troy, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 3, 2020 at age 66. A beloved father and grandfather, he was born in Royal Oak, Michigan to Alice and Louis Gerback. Raised in Bloomfield Hills, he was an outstanding student athlete (football, baseball, track) and alum of Brother Rice.

Jim graduated from Michigan State University before fulfilling a successful career as a CPA. He was a trusted advisor to many and served as CFO of Binson’s Hospital Supplies, Inc. and as a Director of Northwood, Inc. He was a keen problem solver, with a knack for always knowing the right thing to do. His admirable traits led both of his children to follow in his footsteps as a CPA.

His best days were spent watching and talking sports with his son Kevin, spending time with his grandchildren, and catching the sunset with his wife at their Florida Gulf Coast home.

He was a strong patriarch of his family, with a firm handshake and a soft heart. You always knew where you stood with Jim and how to improve your standing. He is missed dearly and is survived by his loving wife and college sweetheart Eileen Gerback (nee Cabaj), children, Kevin Gerback (Jennifer) and Lisa Maly (Christopher), grandsons (Luke, Nolan, Christian, Troy, and Camden), and granddaughter (Peyton). He is also survived by his mother Alice and his brothers, Tim (Patty), Chris, and Dennis. He was preceded in death by his father Louis and his sisters, Jeanne and Karen (Bill Brown).

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Friday, July 10, 3-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 280 E. Square Lake Road, Troy, Saturday, July 11, 10am. All are welcome to attend but facemasks and social distancing will be required.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS.org).
