Obituary for James G. Fisher

James Gilbert Fisher, “Jim,” “Fish” born December 12, 1932, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the age of 88 years old.

Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Treceil, “Terri” (nee White). Lovingly remembered by his children Linda Farquhar (Chris), Theresa DeKane (Richard Dery), John Hicks (Michelle), Donna Petras (John), 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Fisher (Sharon).

He is predeceased in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers and his parents.

Jim grew up in Clawson, Michigan, graduated from Clawson High School and served a short stint in the Navy. He served a long 30+ year career as a City of Pleasant Ridge police officer. After retiring as a lieutenant in 1988, he went on to work as a court officer for the City of Oak Park. In his early days he was a paperboy, milk man, theater usher, security at a roller rink, caddy, funeral home driver and a variety of other things. Bottom line – he was a hard worker.

Jim was an amazing baker and cook, fisherman, photographer, and coin collector. He loved all babies and children and was “Papa/Grandpa/Pops” to so many. He always baked homemade birthday cakes and had packs of gum ready to distribute to all his “grandkids.” Rumor has it that he was also a pirate back in the day. Although not known for being adventurous, Jim did take up snow skiing at age 50. He was a volunteer in many children’s charities and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 130. He and Terri enjoyed their retirement on Forest Lake in Alger, Michigan for 20 years.

His priority was always his family and making sure everyone was okay. He personified the word “sentimental.” He would do anything and everything within his power to help anyone in any way he could. He had the perfect shoulder to cry on and the best hug. He took great pleasure in joking with family and friends with his trademark “nice seeing me.”

He will be deeply missed by his many friends, family, and all who knew him. Though this may be good-bye for now, he will always “be in touch.”

Private services are being held. A public celebration of life will take place at a later date.
