Obituary for Irma G. Malley

Irma G. Malley died at her daughters home in Royal Oak, January 6, 2011. She was 92 years old. Irma was born October 4, 1918, in Highland Park, to Helen (nee Martin) and Harry Culton. A native of Highland Park and Detroit, Irma was very devoted to the Catholic Church. She was a former member of St. Scholastica Parish in Detroit and a long time member of the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. Irma was a voracious reader, avid gardner, walker extraordinaire and a enthusiastic cook. She had a fondness for sweets and enjoyed tennis, the love of music, a good cup of tea and worked for many years at local election polls. Irma was a kind, gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many.

Irma is survived by her children, John Paul Malley, Jr., Barbara (Thomas) Johnson, Mary Somers, Nancy (Brian) Gould, and Michael T. Malley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marc and Dwayne (Krista) Malley, Christopher, Jennifer and Emily (Nate Webb) Johnson, Amy Somers and Sarah (Steven) Jelinek, Jason and Michael Gould and Michael (Meghan) and Daniel Malley, great-grandchild, Brady Gould and nieces, Joanie Bogart and Cathy Hastings. Irma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John P. Malley; brothers, Joseph and Harry Culton and sisters, Marie Gignac, Evelyn Clayton and Claire Clark.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday 2-8pm with prayers at 5pm. Funeral at National Shrine of the Little Flower, Woodward at 12 Mile Road, Royal Oak, Monday 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
