Obituary for Herman J. Drazick

Herman J. Drazick was born in Detroit April 3, 1930, to John and Mary Drazick. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated from Mackenzie High School. He also attended Wayne State.

He married Sheila Withers in 1954 and honeymooned in Cuba. With his wife he traveled extensively. Proud of his Croatian heritage he often traveled there with his family. His passion for fishing took him to Costa Rica, Alaska, Australia and to the Bahamas. Avid golfers, Herman and Sheila were members of Red Run golf club (55 years) Bay Harbor (Petoskey) and Turtle Creek (Tequesta, Fl.) and enjoyed golfing trips to Scotland, Pebble Beach and the Carolinas. He was an instrument rated pilot and used any excuse to fly friends and family – The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island being one of his favorite destinations

He gained experience working for his father at Northeastern Tool & Die before branching out on his own and purchasing Sharp Die & Mold. Doing extensive work for the automotive industry he developed several patents on mold production. Selling his business and retiring in 1980, he would spend his winters in Florida and return to Michigan when the weather was warm.

Herman is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sheila, daughter, Debbie (Bert DiStefano), grandson, Michael (Isabel) DiStefano, and granddaughter, Lisa DiStefano, and three great-grandchildren: Thomas, Chloe and James.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, Wednesday 11am. Friends may visit beginning at 10:30am. Entombment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Memorials appreciated to The Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, Michigan 48207, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
