Obituary for Henry J. Bonkowski

Henry J. Bonkowski, a long time resident of Detroit, died at his home in Troy, November 13, 2011. He was 91 years old. Henry was born December 21, 1919, in Detroit, to Victoria (nee Laskey) and Alexander Bonkowski.

Henry proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Mary Mifsud on April 16, 1955, and was a tool and die maker with Chrysler Corporation for 32 years until his retirement in 1981.

Henry was a member of the VFW in Hamtramck and Guardian Angels Church in Clawson. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed playing blackjack at the casino and traveling to Las Vegas, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Henry was deeply loved and will be missed greatly.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Mary and children, Joan (Perfecto) DeVera, Gary Bonkowski, and Marvin Bonkowski. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda, Peter, and Nathan DeVera, brother, Richard (Wanda) Bonkowski, and sister-in-law, Virginia Bonkowski. Henry is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Bonkowski.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Wednesday 2-9pm with prayers at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Guardian Angels Church, 581 E. Fourteen Mile Road, Clawson, Thursday 10:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. Burial to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
