Obituary for Helen F. Bostwick

Helen F. Bostwick, of Royal Oak, died July 16, 2011 at St. Annes Mead Senior Living in Southfield. She was 93 years old. She was born on August 19, 1917 in Trenton, New Jersey to Francis and Helen E. (nee Koenig) Carney. Helen grew up in Detroit and attended St. Agnes Grade School and High School where she graduated early at the age of 16. She attended Marygrove College on a math and Latin scholarship.

Helen worked as a secretary for the A&P Corporation before marrying her grade school sweetheart, Jim Bostwick in 1939. She became a full time mother and homemaker, raising her first 4 children on Archdale in Detroit. In February of 1956, when her youngest son was 8 years old, the family moved to Old Mill Road in Bloomfield Township. They welcomed twins 9 month later, for a total of 6 children.

Helen was one of the founding members of St. Regis Church, Brother Rice and Marian High Schools. She was a member of the St. Regis Altar Guild and Marian High School Mothers Club, volunteering many hours for fund raising and social events.

An avid cook and baker, Helen developed many bread recipes that she packaged and sold at craft fairs over the years, sometimes baking as many as 300 loaves for one show. Her kitchen was always busy and smelled wonderful.

Helen loved to entertain family, friends, and the many unexpected business associates that Jim surprised her with at any given time. She was always prepared for the unexpected.

Above all, Helen cherished her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who was a role model for her children, nieces, and nephews. She loved every grandchild and great grandchild, always ready to hold the babies and eager to hear news about each and every one. She was a great listener, and always made you feel important. Wise and thoughtful, caring and loving, Helen was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Helen is survived by her loving children, James W. (Charleen) Bostwick III, Val (Robert) LaMotte, David (Patti) Bostwick, Janet Bostwick and Judy (Jeff) Block; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Carney and sister, Maureen Kelly. Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Bostwick; daughter, Patricia Boudreau, son in-law, Paul Boudreau, and brothers, Frank Carney and George (Bill) Carney.

Visitation at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday 2-8pm. Funeral from St. Regis Church, Lahser at Lincoln, Bloomfield Hills, Friday 10:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
