Obituary for Harold W. Lanning, Sr.

At 93 years old, Harold left our earthly world to be with God and sing in His choir on March 18, 2020. He was born November 26, 1926 in River Rouge, Michigan to John and Pauline Lanning and is survived by his children Jack, Harold Jr., Mike and Leslee (Siano); as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by children Patrick and Denise and wives, Cherrie and Mary Lou.

Harold was a twenty-something trapped in a ninety-something body. He was an unstoppable soul whose positive spirit infected everyone he came in contact with. Harold was a WW II Pacific Theatre Veteran before joining General Motors. After 37 years of service, he retired from GM in 1987. Amongst his passions was baseball, which he played well into his 80s. He also sang the National Anthem at more than 15 Detroit Tiger games. His other loves included the Shriners. He was an active member of the Shriners, was a Master Mason for over 70 years and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Contributions may be made to the Music Dept at FUMC Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham, MI 48009 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 2400 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at a later date.
