Obituary for Harold Baylis

Harold Baylis died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 18, 2021 at McLaren Macomb Hospital. He was 78 years old. Harold was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 8, 1942.

Harold proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 7 years. After his service, he began working construction for over 40 years. He married the love of his life, Barbara Jones, on his birthday in 1961: a marriage that would span almost 60 incredible years and give birth to three children.

Harold was called into the ministry in 1986 and worked security for New Grace Baptist Church for 30 years. He had unwavering devotion to his faith and his family. Those who knew him will remember him as a “gentle-giant”, a great cook, a martial arts movie buff, and a lovely singer. He especially enjoyed singing Motown classics.

Harold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, minister, and friend. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, his loving children, Michelle Mason, Kimberly Baylis, and Tiffani Baylis. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Chris, Daverick, Paris “Missy”, Darian, and Leilani, his great-grandchildren, Dyiamond, Cydneigh, Brayden, Chancellor, and Cassidy, siblings, Jeanette (the late Marvin) Bradford and Anita Baylis, sibling-in-laws, Vera (Willie) Jones, Jackie Rodgers, and John Jones, also many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Herman (Malvina) Baylis.

A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 10:30am at New Grace Baptist Church 25 Ford Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan 48203. Visitation begins at 10am.

Burial will be on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 1pm in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

Memorials appreciated to the National Kidney Foundation, 1169 Oak Valley Drive Ann Arbor, Michigan 48108.
