Obituary for George P. Aldea

George P. Aldea of Royal Oak died October 7, 2011, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 76 years old. George was born September 17, 1935, in Windsor, Ontario, to Stephanie (nee Radu) and John Aldea. He married Dorothy Ann Barbelescu on June 4, 1960, and together they raised three children.

George was a Technology Professional. He worked for IBM as a Systems Administrator from 1958-1961 and from 1961-1966 worked as a Programmer for Cuyahuga National Bank of Cleveland. From 1966 until his retirement in 1995, George worked as a Programmer, Systems Analyst and Systems Specialist for Chrysler Corporation where he earned the Chrysler Chairman�s Award.

After his retirement, George enjoyed many activities. He was owner of a commercial filter service, Certified Master Gardener/Master Woodland Manager, and worked at the Michigan State University Extension Program in Oakland County as a Seasonal Horticulture Advisor. George also volunteered at the Royal Oak Nature Society, was a Junior Achievement Advisor, Boy Scout Leader, and Fund Raising Chairman for Royal Oak Kimball Band. He was very active in St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, serving in many leadership roles spanning over 30 years. He was a member of the Orthodox Brotherhood.

His greatest joy came from spending time with family. George was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and children, George P. (Susan) Aldea, Jr., Donald J. (Julie) Aldea, and Marleen T. Aldea. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Jaclyn, Kaitlin, Matthew, Abigail, and Allison, and siblings, Terry (Florence) Aldea, Irene Wortley, and Larry (Joann) Aldea. George is preceded in death by his sister, Sophie Muha.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 4-8pm with a Saracusta at 7:30pm. Funeral at St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 18405 W. Nine Mile Road, Southfield, Tuesday 10am. Interment in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
