Obituary for George Banchiu

George Banchiu of Clawson, died September 9, 2010, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 84 years old. Mr. Banchiu was born November 26, 1925, in Detroit, to Sarah (nee Dobra) and Mitica Banchiu. He and his wife, Louise, met in Highland Park and eventually settled in Clawson, where they raised their two sons. Mr. Banchiu worked for General Motors as a tradesman for over 30 years until his retirement in 1984.

Throughout his life Mr. Banchiu was an extremely talented softball player whose men�s softball team won a World Championship. He was also an accomplished handyman and woodworker. In his free time, one of Mr. Banchiu�s favorite activities was watching his grandson Adam play sports.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Mr. Banchiu will be remembered best for his integrity, his hardworking nature, his sense of humor, and especially his love of family and friends. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.


Mr. Banchiu is survived by his sons, David (Joyce) Banchiu and Daniel (Peggy) Banchiu and grandson, Adam Banchiu. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Justine Krieg and Courtney (Charlie) Tanner, sister-in-law, Virginia Banchiu and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Banchiu is preceded in death by his wife, Louise, brothers, John and Charles Banchiu, sister, Aurelia Stan and brother-in-law, Bill Stan.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 3-8pm. Funeral Services at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, Tuesday 11am. Friends may visit beginning at 10am. Interment in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
