Obituary for George A. Jafano

George A. Jafano died December 22, 2021. He was 88 years old. George was born November 27, 1933 to August and Carrie Jafano at his grandparents’ farm in Goodells, Michigan.

He was raised in Birmingham, Michigan and was proud to be a member of the last graduating class of Baldwin High School in 1951. It was at his first job at Kresge’s in downtown Birmingham that he met his wife, Gloria. He was working as a stock clerk and her the candy counter. Soon after, his uncle got him into the apprenticeship program at Ford Motor and he obtained his journeyman’s license. He went on to become a maintenance supervisor.

George and Gloria raised their young family in Birmingham before moving to Clawson in 1965 as the family grew. In his earlier years, George enjoyed family camping trips, snowmobiling, golfing, racquetball, and bowling. He was an avid lifelong Detroit Lions fan and season ticket holder for over 40 years. George married his second wife, Patty, in 1988 and they enjoyed many years RVing to Florida in the winter while living in Washington, Michigan.

Throughout his entire life, he enjoyed telling silly / “bad” jokes and stumping and impressing people with trivia. In his later years, George enjoyed card games such as Euchre tournaments and playing solitaire. He also frequented many trips to the casino in Sarnia to play his favorite game, Blackjack. One of his favorite hobbies was investing and watching the stock market.

In 1994 George retired from Ford Motor after 41 years working mainly at the Mound Road, Sterling Plant.

He is survived by his children, Debbie (Steve) Wyse-Harold, Gerald (Sue) Jafano, Steven (Timothy) Jafano, and Kimberly (the late Andrew) Forman, and 8 grandchildren: Kellee, Janell, Leslie, Robert, Jordan, Kayla, Garrett, and Connor. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria, his second wife, Patty, his son-in-law, Andrew Forman, and his grandson, Corey Forman.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 11am. Friends may visit Sunday, January 2, 2-7pm and Monday, January 3, 4-8pm.
