Obituary for Eva Tedsen

Eva Tedsen (born Elfriede Thierbach) passed away peacefully on September 8, 2016, at the age of 89. Born February 20, 1927 in Leipzig, Germany, Eva immigrated to the United States in 1950 with her husband, Edgar, and two young daughters in search of opportunity and a better life. Fulfilling their own personal American Dream, Eva and Edgar eventually settled in Sterling Heights, Michigan where they raised their four children, Karin, Ingrid, Nancy, and Mark. Eva completed a Bachelor’s degree at Oakland University in 1973, and she was an elementary teacher for the Pontiac School District for 16 years.

Lovingly known as Mimi, Omi, and the Energizer Bunny, Eva lived a full, rich life and was able to live independently in her home to the last day. Of many things, she was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, homemaker, school teacher, seamstress, knitter, skier, sailor, organist, reader, bird watcher, opera enthusiast, theatergoer, usher, camper, and world traveler. She was her indomitable, feisty self to the very end.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Edgar Tedsen, and later, by her devoted companion of 10 years, Phil Foss. She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many, many more loved ones who will carry on her memory and legacy.

She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by Karin and Hugh Collet; Ingrid and Tom Perring; Nancy and Donald Johnson; Mark and Paula Tedsen; Nicole, Garry, Connor, and Grant Gordon; Rebecca, Jeffrey, Elijah, and Ezra Tapick; Amanda Perring and Adam Trivison; Kevin and Katie Johnson; and Bryan, Allison, and Aiden Johnson.

Services will be held privately.

Memorial contributions in Eva’s memory may be made to “ease the cruel wounds of war” to VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, Michigan 48827 or Grace Centers for Hope, 35 E. Huron Street, P.O. Box 420726, Pontiac, Michigan 48342-0725.
