Obituary for Esther R. Hogan

Esther Regina Hogan (nee Mooney) died peacefully November 17, 2019. She was 97 years old. Esther was born June 11, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Stella (nee Kelly) and Richard Mooney.

Esther graduated from St. Martin High School in Detroit in 1940 and went on to work at Jam Handy Commercial Films for the next 14 years. On February 12, 1955, Esther married the love of her life, Joseph S. Hogan, and together they raised 4 beautiful children.

After Joseph’s death in 1973, Esther went to work at Eastpointe City Hall as a clerk. She was a member of St. Angela Parish in Roseville.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Esther was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Esther is survived by her loving daughters, Mary Anne (the late Dr. Robert) Veneri, Joan Martin, Patricia Sargent and Nancy (Kevin) Regan, 7 cherished grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Esther is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hogan and Jenny Mooney. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph S. Hogan, her siblings, Dorothy Brown and Richard Mooney, and her sister-in-law, Sr. Mary Frances Hogan IHM.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads) Tuesday, November 19th, 3-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 280 E. Square Lake Road, Troy, Wednesday, November 20th at 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am.
