Obituary for Esther Marguerite Watson

Esther Marguerite Watson died peacefully at home in Sterling Heights, October 28, 2012. She was 88 years old. Esther was born January 22, 1924 in Levis, Quebec, Canada, to Alma (nee Sirois) and Romeo Guenet. She was one of 7 siblings.

Esther grew up in Levis, a suburb of Quebec City, and worked at Bell Telephone of Canada. She eventually met and married Hugh Watson. They lived in Ottawa for a few years until Hugh was transferred to the Detroit office of the Canadian Pacific Railroad.

French was Esthers native language, but she was fluent in English and could easily complete crossword puzzles in English, which was a hobby of hers. She was also an avid reader, and a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings, watching every game during the Stanley Cup years. She also loved Survivor, American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars, and would call her son John afterwards to discuss the results.

Later in life Esther worked at Cottage hospital in Grosse Pointe until she retired to care for her ailing husband. After Hughs death in 1988 she enjoyed visiting her relatives in Montreal and Quebec, her son Mark in New Jersey, and annual summer vacations at Shanty Creek Resort with John and his family.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Esther Watson was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many.

She is survived by her sons, John (Nancy) and Mark Watson, her grandchildren, Heather and Shane Watson, and her sisters Jeannine (Joseph) Gonthier and Suzanne Nadeau. Esther is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, and her siblings, Lucie, Roger, Andre, and Louis.
