Obituary for Estelle M. Dugas

Estelle M. Dugas of Troy, died December 4, 2010, at Canterbury on the Lake in Waterford. She was 83 years old. Estelle was born January 22, 1927, in Maria, Province of Quebec, Canada, a small fishing village on the Gaspe Peninsula in the North Atlantic. She was youngest of Melanie (nee Lavoie) and Timothie Levesque�s 12 children.

Estelle attended primary school in a one room schoolhouse, where she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, John Dugas. For her secondary education, Estelle went to boarding school where studied home economics under the guidance of the Sisters of Charity of Montreal, commonly referred to as the �Grey Nuns�.

In 1949, Estelle and John were married in Toronto. They then moved to Michigan, where they lived in both Centerline and Warren before settling in Troy in 1978.

Estelle learned to speak English during the 1950s but never lost her charming French accent. Throughout her lifetime, she was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mark�s and St Anne�s in Warren as well as St. Rene Goupil in Sterling Heights. Apart from church activities, she also enjoyed sewing, travel, and golf. A devoted homemaker, Estelle will be remembered best for her love of family and friends, her beautiful blue eyes, and her abundant faith in God. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Jean �Rick� Dugas, Diane (Gordon) Gillis, Pauline (John) Tait, Daniel Dugas, and Donna (Darrell) Nuznoff. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Marisa Dugas, brother, Edmond Levesque and sister, Irma (Marcel) Robitaille.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday 3-8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Rene Goupil Church, 35955 Ryan Road, Sterling Heights, Friday 9:30am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:00am. Interment in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
