Obituary for Essa George Elly

Essa George Elly of Royal Oak died February 1, 2020. He was 82 years old. Essa was born October 13, 1937 in New Haven, Connecticut to George and Misadeh Elly.

Essa proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill. After he was honorably discharged, Essa became a master engraver and was registered with the federal government due to his talent.

He loved playing baseball and could still make his pitches smoke, even in his 60’s. He coached all 3 sons in little league baseball. Essa was a semi-pro bowler and was very active in the Redford Jaycees. He loved golf and played in a league each year.

Essa loved to travel and was always ready for adventure. He will be remembered for his fabulous cooking, following his mother’s Arabic recipes. He loved his family and was loyal and protective of his family and friends. His siblings lovingly called him The Elly Godfather.

Essa is survived by his wife, Carol and his children, Essa (Kathy) Elly and Glen Elly, stepson, Mike (Sara) Scott, Jr., and grandchildren. Chad, Kyle, Chrissy, and Claira. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Maria, many nieces and nephews and sisters, Catherine (Keith Harvey) and Julie (Jim Holden). Essa is preceded in death by his brother, George (the late Barbara) Elly.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads) Saturday, February 15th at 3pm. Friends may visit beginning at 1pm.
