Obituary for Emma Lee Burry

Emma Lee Burry of Troy, a resident of Troy and formerly of Clawson, died December 9, 2010, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was 84 years old. Emma was born March 21, 1926, in Johnson City, Tennessee, the first of nine children of Mable (nee Hyder) and Hencie Potts.

Out of necessity to have playmates she became a tomboy. From this early start she became a talented athlete. While in High School Emma played girls baseball and as a young wife and mother she enjoyed her bowling leagues. When Emma discovered golf she found a lifelong love for the game. She was never happier than when she was with her friends chasing that little white ball.

Throughout her life, Emma always put others needs before her own. She only saw the good in people and because of this open acceptance, she has friends that reach back to her early elementary school years.

Emma was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, big sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed.

Emma is survived by her children, Dennis Burry, Donna Rasnick and Mark Burry and her grandchildren, Vincent Rasnick, James Burry, Sara Henneman and Erin Centrone. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Michael Burry and Emma Centrone and siblings, John (Virginia) Potts, Carl (the late Alice) Potts, Eugene (Martha) Potts, Ken Potts, James (Victoria) Potts, Mary June (Tom) Henderson, and Michael (Bonnie) Potts. Emma is preceded in death by her husband, Cyril Burry, parents, Hencie and Mable June Potts and brother, Haynes (the late Laura) Potts.

A memorial service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 2pm.

Memorials may be made to Autism Society Oakland County Chapter, P.O. Box 70207, Rochester Hills, Michigan 48307 or Ronald McDonald House, 3911 Beaubien Street, Detroit, Michigan 48201.
