Obituary for Ellen Stark

Ellen Stark (née McElwee), age 92, of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2021, surrounded by her family. Ellen and her husband Louis, who preceded her in death in 2013, lived in their Royal Oak home for six decades raising seven children. Pure-hearted and selfless, Ellen put the interests of her husband, children and friends before her own. Above all else, she treasured her relationship with God. It was her calling to help the church and others in need, but her favorite roles were being a wife, mother and grandmother to her children, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She leaves her children Kevin (Kiersten), Louann Taylor (Lowell), Mary Kay Wright (Bill), Paul (Christy), Jim (Janet), Eileen Ashley and Dan (Kathy). She cherished her grandchildren Miranda and Trevor Your (Erin), Trent and Devin Sutherland, Ben, Kirsten Hillyard (Joseph) and Elizabeth Anderson (Keith), Alexis and Mackenzie, Ellie and Nathan, as well as great-grandchildren Quinn and Emery Your. She was the last surviving of the six siblings of the McElwee family, and leaves many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and devoted friends.

Ellen spent the last years of her life at St. Anne’s Mead in an environment of comfort and caring provided by truly remarkable people.

Friends and family may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Wednesday, December 1st, from 4 to 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 2345 Coolidge, Troy, on Thursday, December 2nd at 10:30am. Friends may begin visiting at 10am. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be directed to St. Anne’s Mead online or 16106 W. 12 Mile Road, Southfield, Michigan 48076.
