Obituary for Elizabeth Ghaffari

Elizabeth “Liza” Ghaffari of Clawson died February 10, 2019. She was 96 years old. Liza was born December 30, 1922 in Detroit to Annie (nee Rizk) and Wadeh Haddad.

Liza is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Tannous “Tony” Ghaffari and children, Louis Ghaffari and Margaret (Robert) Solak. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachel (Kurtis) Krautner and Alex Solak, great-grandson, Sawyer Krautner and sister, Jeannette (Daher) Rahi. Liza is preceded in death by her siblings Catherine (George) Aziz, Edward Haddad, Sam (Peggy) Haddad, Louis Haddad, Monsignor John W. Haddad, and Michael (Marie) Haddad.

Liza’s focus in life was to care for her immediate and extended family. She adored children and particularly thrived in caring for her grandchildren while they were babies. She was a gracious hostess that would welcome everyone into her home and make you feel like family. She was an amazing cook and baker always preparing extra food so that care packages could go home with guests at the end of their visit. She had a deep religious faith that guided her throughout her life. Although she lived her life modestly, Liza loved her family unconditionally and that is the greatest gift she gave her family particularly her children.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday, February 14th at 11am. Friends may visit Wednesday, February 13th, 3-8pm and Thursday beginning at 10:30am. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.

Memorials may be made to St. Maron Maronite Catholic Church, 11466 Kercheval St, Detroit, Michigan 48214 or Our Lady of Redemption Melkite Catholic Church, 29293 Lorraine Ave, Warren, Michigan 48093.
