Obituary for Edward M. Knight

Edward Meshew Knight of Bloomfield Hills died December 29, 2019. He was 87 years old. Mr. Knight was born as “Eddie” on June 20, 1932 in Paducah, Kentucky to parents Elizabeth (nee Meshew) and Turner Knight. Ed’s father was originally a farmer and his mother, a "city girl" from Mayfield, KY. His parents moved the family to Detroit, Michigan to seek employment in the automotive industry. They settled in Brightmoor and Ed graduated from Redford High school in 1950, where he was on the swim team (at least for a while) with "Bumpy" Jones. Ed also tried amateur boxing.

Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he specialized in fire control systems on F-86 fighter jet aircraft during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he earned his degree in business administration from the University of Detroit. While at U. of D., Ed met Ann Marie Moriarity and they were happily married for over 50 years. He worked in the automotive industry and later founded his own automotive service/marketing company, ComSpec Inc., which he ran for over 30 years. In Ed’s "retirement" (he would say, “do you ever really retire”?), he taught business communication classes at Walsh College and owned several other businesses.

Ed and Ann enjoyed fine dining, travel, boating, and golf. Ed became a member of Western Golf & Country Club in 1972, where Ed and Ann met many life-long friends and celebrated many great occasions. Together, they raised their young family in Livonia and later Bingham Farms, Michigan. In their retirement years, Ed and Ann enjoyed spending time in Scottsdale, Arizona where they built a home. They also enjoyed vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Ed is survived by his children, Kelly (Michael) Dietz and Craig (Deborah) Knight. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dillon and Lauren Dietz and Brendan and Elizabeth Knight and nephews, Ken Price, Brett Price, and Guy Price. Ed is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Marie, sister, Yvonne Price, and nephew, Michael Price.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday, January 2nd, 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham, Friday, January 3rd, at 12 noon. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11:30am. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
