Obituary for Dorothy Sue Matsumoto

Dorothy Sue Matsumoto of Royal Oak, Michigan passed away on January 7, 2022 at age 89. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy was born in Chicago and her family later relocated to Detroit where she spent her childhood and eventually met her husband Kazuo Matsumoto. Dorothy and Kazuo moved to Royal Oak where they raised their family. When Dorothy lost her husband to cancer, she found a position as an administrative assistant at Ex-Cell-O Corporation. Dorothy had a productive career and retired as a human resources manager at Harvard Industries. After retirement, Dorothy was able to spend more time as a grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were a lifelong source of pride and joy.

She was an avid traveler and took many trips to Europe, Australia and Asia. She was a member of her church quilting group and enjoyed sewing and knitting. For many years she was an active member of the Rose Marie Floyd Ballet Company, appearing in many dance recitals. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and hosting wonderful meals for her family at holiday time.

Dorothy is survived by her children Lawrence (Mary), Michael (Janice) and Rachel and by her grandchildren Samantha (Eric) and Kimberely. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kazuo.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 3-7pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Michigan 48017. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11am at First United Methodist Church 320 W 7th St, Royal Oak, MI 48067. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Michigan.
