Obituary for Dorothy Dow Hannum

Dorothy “Dotti” Dow Hannum died October 14, 2019. She was 73 years old. Dorothy was born June 10, 1946 in Pontiac to Virginia (nee Langdon) and Howard Dow.

Dorothy graduated from Eastern Michigan University and received her Master’s Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. She was a teacher for the Warren Consolidated Schools. Dorothy strived to be creative in all aspects of her life and impacted many lives as a world traveler, artist, and school teacher.

Eager to see the world from a young age, she taught in Nuremberg, Germany for the US Department for Defense, helping families of Army service members overseas and traveling Europe on weekends & holidays. A longtime elementary school teacher with the Warren Consolidated School District, she also worked as an entrepreneur, TV producer, painter, and designer. Visited Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America and the Carribean, Europe, and many US states including Hawaii and Alaska.

Dotti was much loved by her husband and partner Edward Hannum; admired mother of Andy (Lauren) Hannum of East Lansing, Michigan; and proud grandmother of Ramona, Charlie, and Zoe. Daughter of the late Virginia and Howard Dow; sister to Diane (Norm) Suire of Elgin, Illinois; Denise (Dave) Howison of Abilene, Texas; David (Vicki) Dow of Plant City, Florida; the late Dennis Dow as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 9th, 12 noon, at Big Beaver United Methodist Church, 3753 John R Road, in Troy.
