Obituary for Dora T. Gaudino

Dora Theresa (Dory) Gaudino, 95, of Birmingham, Michigan, went to heaven to join her husband of 65 years, Dominic, on April 5th, 2021. Dora was born in Bari, Italy to Eugene Saroli and Angelina (Bellisario) Saroli on June 2nd, 1925. She was the youngest of 4 children, and immigrated to America with her family when she was 2. She had blue eyes and golden hair, so they named her D’ora (Italian for gold.)

As a teen, she had to sneak out to see her neighbor and future husband, Dominic Gaudino, because her three older brothers, Tony, Peter and Joe Saroli were like protective watchdogs. When Dominic came back from the Navy, they got married, and then spent a year apart because he got ill with Tuberculosis.

Dora was a devoted daughter and wife. She was a “stay at home” Mom and taught us all that family is EVERYTHING! Sports were a big part of her life, whether it was watching the kids at their games and competitions, playing tennis and golf, or watching the Tigers, Lions and Spartans on TV. She loved to dance, had an infectious laugh and made the best apple pies.
Dora worked many years as a hostess at Friar Tuck Restaurant after the kids were grown. She got her hair and nails done regularly and loved to shop, go out for dinner and spend time with her kids. She loved her vacations to Vegas, Europe, Hubbard Lake and spending many winters in Delray Beach, Florida.

During the Pandemic, she learned to FaceTime and would reminisce about good memories and what a blessed life she had. She was feisty until the end. She is probably scolding her grown children from the grave for publishing her age.

Dora is survived by her children, JoAnn (Mark) Brandau of Marco Island, Peter (Jody) Gaudino of Birmingham and Gene (Dianne) Gaudino of Troy, seven grandchildren, Nancy, Nick, Adam, Dominic, Damon, Elizabeth and Mario, and four great-granddaughters, Willow, Elizabeth, Wynne and Hazel Dora Gaudino!

Friends may visit at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd, Clawson, (between 14-15 Mile Rd.) Thursday, April 15th 5-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon Street, Birmingham, MI 48009 on Friday, April 16th at 10 am. Burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
