Obituary for Donald J. Ritter

Donald J. Ritter of Bloomfield Hills and Indian River, Michigan, died February 12, 2012. He was 82 years old. Don was born August 10, 1929, in Detroit to Elizabeth (nee Wesley) and Arthur Ritter. He grew up in Birmingham where he worked at his father�s beer store delivering beverages to local Birmingham residents.

Don proudly served in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge in 1951, Don married the love of his life and best friend, Esther Marlene Mark, October 18, 1952, beginning a marriage that would span nearly 55 years.

Early in his professional career, Don sold Bibles and Cadillacs. He then attended General Motors Institute and graduated in 1957. Don went on to become a Regional Manager for GM�s Holding Division, retiring in 1991 after 32 years of service. His last assignment was managing the Eastern Sea Board.

Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family at their life long vacation home on Mullett Lake in Indian River.

Don is survived by his sons, Mark (Donna) Ritter, Andy (Sally) Ritter, and Scott Ritter. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda, Thomas, Daniel, Chad, Todd, Sean, and Jesse, great-grandchildren, Katie, Caroline, and Everley and brothers, Jim and Tom Ritter. Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Wednesday 5-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Transfiguration Episcopal Church, 8119 Michigan 68, Indian River, Friday at 2pm with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Indian River.
