Obituary for Dominic Dom Trupiano

Dominic Trupiano died March 3, 2011, at his home in Royal Oak. He was born December 30, 1925, in Detroit, to Margaret (nee Cusamano) and Anthony Trupiano.

Dominic �Dom�, who recently celebrated his 85th birthday with his family, leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Dolores �Dody� Lane Trupiano whom he married on January 25, 1947; his children, Toni Lynn (Kelly) Hayden, Dominic II (Robin), Mark Lane (Jeanne), Kimberly Jane (Leigh) Stanley, and Mary Jill Bauer.

Dominic is the proud grandfather of John, Razzaq, Joel, Lauren, Bradley, Mica, Michael, Ali, Anna, Laura, Christopher, and Frank; great grandfather to Sydney and Ianna along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loves dearly.

Dominic is predeceased by his parents; Anthony and Margaret and brothers; Sam, Joseph and Anthony.

Dominic, a graduate of Eastern High School in Detroit, completed his education at the School of Arts and Crafts, now known as the Center for Creative Studies.

A newspaper man his entire life, Dominic worked at the Detroit Times from 1946 until it ceased publication in 1960 then moved to the Detroit Free Press as an editorial artist, illustrator and finally Assistant Art Director until his retirement in 1991. He was also a contributor to the Michigan Catholic newspaper.

In addition, Dominic pitched for the Detroit Free Press Thunderbirds softball team, playing against such celebrities as Soupy Sales and John Denver. After his retirement he continued to play on a local senior�s team well into his seventies.

Dominic loved photography, music and especially traveling the state painting landscapes of his beloved Michigan. He was a die-hard Detroit Tigers Fan who enjoyed every Tiger baseball season, win or lose.

Dominic and Dolores �Dody� are long time, active members of St. Columban Parish where he has served as president of the Parish Council. He also served as an usher for over 25 years.

Dominic�s gentle way and sweet disposition were the very fabric of his character. His love touched and lifted so many lives. This kind, generous, sweet-hearted man loved us with his whole heart. With Dominic�s passing the world has lost a good man; he will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads) Saturday and Sunday 4-8pm. A prayer service will take place Sunday at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Columban Church, 1775 Melton, Birmingham, Monday at 10am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 9:30am.

Interment in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
