Obituary for Destiny McCroy

Destiny Dominique-Shonte' McCroy was born on August 1, 1997, and granted her angel wings on January 11, 2012, following a lifelong battle with hydrocephalus. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whom she had touched throughout her short, yet very memorable life. She passed away in her mothers arms.

Destinys life would seem too short to many, but those touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeded its quantity. Her beautiful smile could melt the hearts of those around her and though she never spoke a word, her spirit could always be heard.

Although Destinys illness made her appear frail, she possessed strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With her courage she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories, and most importantly, to live life to the fullest. She could spend hours playing with a balloon just to hear the noise it made and it would make her laugh each time. She enjoyed music, laughing with her siblings, playing with anything that made noise, and having her mommy tell her stories.

Destiny is survived by her parents, Thomasina McCroy Richardson Fubara and Sherwin Washington, Jr., as well as her devoted stepfather Emmit Richardson Fubara who has been a part of her life for many years and calls her lil Diva. She is also survived by her older sisters/adoring caregivers Brittany and Ebony, younger sisters Dynasty and Tyrea, her younger brother Tyree and step-brother, Emil, her niece Brielle, her maternal grandparents, Tommy and Margaret Florence, paternal grandparents, Sabrina and Sherwin Washington, maternal great-grandfather Roosevelt McCroy, paternal grandmother Gladies Washington, Godparents Carla Pitts and Anthony Heath, her maternal great-grandmother Faye McCroy, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her extended step-family.

Destiny also leaves behind many excellent caregivers who provided love and support that enhanced her quality of life: the dedicated staff at Angela Hospice, especially her remarkable social worker Ann-Patrice, as well as the doctors and nurses at Childrens Hospital. There is a special place in our hearts for the entire staff at Angela Hospice because of their continual dedication, love, and support. Destiny was comfortable and at peace during her passing. She will be dearly missed by these special caregivers, as well as her teacher, Leslie Wroblewski, classmates, and the entire staff at Keith Bovenschen School.

Special thanks also to all of the people, too numerous to mention by name, who provided Destiny with love daily.

Visitation for Destiny will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.), Tuesday 4-8pm.

The funeral will take place at Grace Community Church, 21001 Moross Rd., Detroit, Wednesday 12 Noon. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for her siblings c/o Grace Community Church, or the following foundations in her honor: Give Kids The World Village, 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 or Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
