Obituary for Derek A. MacNeil

Derek A. MacNeil of Birmingham died October 13, 2016 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was 52 years old. Derek was born March 13, 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts to Dorothea (nee George) and Allan MacNeil.

Derek received a Bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts and a Master’s in International Business from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island where he graduated Cum Laude. He married Suzanne Kinman on May 8, 1994. Derek was an Executive for Fiat Chrysler Automotive for 29 years. While employed with FCA Derek and Suzanne lived in Japan, Singapore, Australia, and Texas before relocating to the headquarter in Michigan.

Derek was an avid car enthusiast who enjoyed participating in Milles and the Colorado Grande. He loved traveling, cooking, and New England Patriot Football.

He was a lover of life who fought his battle with small cell cancer with strength and dignity. Derek was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Derek is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne MacNeil, his mother, Dorothea MacNeil and his siblings, Darren (Dorothy) MacNeil, Alanna (Michael) Zografos, and Bonnie (Auston) MacNeil-Bouska. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Rachael Sydney, Liam, Ethan and Meredith, father and mother-in-law, Luther and Selena Kinman and many in-laws, cousins, and friends. Derek is preceded in death by his father, Allan MacNeil and beloved dog, Matilda Marie.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday, October 16th at 3pm. Friends may visit beginning at 12pm.
