Obituary for Daniel Jack Bourquin

Daniel Jack Bourquin beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Sunday June 6th, 2021 at the age of 60.

Dan was born in El Paso, Texas on June 27th, 1960 to Jack and Joy Bourquin and was raised in Rolla, Missouri where he graduated from Rolla High School in 1978. He attended University of Missouri-Rolla (Missouri University of Science and Technology) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Ford Motor Company and was later employed with Yazaki North America in the Detroit area.

Although an electrical engineer by profession, Dan was a percussionist by passion. He played in a variety of music ensembles throughout his life but he especially loved performing with his son who is a bassist and daughter who is a vocalist. Jazz was his all-time favorite genre.

Dan was also very devout in his Catholic faith. He became Catholic in 2012 and immensely enjoyed attending Mass at several parishes in the Detroit area.

Dan was known to be very generous with his time and skills. He typically volunteered at the soup kitchen in Detroit on Thanksgiving and would tutor his children, as well as children of friends, in Math and Science subjects. Dan is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his two children, Jacques Bourquin and Kelcie Bourquin; his mother; his sisters, Sonya Busch and Dana (Rob) Walling; and several cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 14th, at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 Twelve Mile Road, Royal Oak. Daniel passed away due to Covid-19 and the family lovingly asks that all attendees wear masks. A memorial service in Rolla will take place at a future date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the music program at Missouri University of Science and Technology 1100 N. Pine St., Rolla, MO 65409.
