Obituary for Daniel C. Miller

Daniel Charles Miller died December 24, 2021 from Covid. He was 77 years old. Dan was born to Irene and Charles Miller September 17, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. Daniel graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in accounting and later received his Master’s Degree in Business.

Dan married Joy Allwardt September 3rd, 1977. He hired into GM out of college and was drafted shortly after. He served in Germany for those years working on payroll accounts and returned to work for GM for the next 37 years. Along with GM, he also did a supplemental job with Nation Wide Income Tax Services.

He then was blessed to start working for The English District of the MO Synod. In his desire to serve, he would drive for SOS (South Oakland Shelter) and served before and in retirement on various boards. For many years, Dan was an elder, progressing to a specific area of shut-ins and seniors. He not only filled them with scripture readings, prayers, and moments of listening, but he also filled requests of painting furniture, cutting lawns, picking up prescriptions, taking them to doctor appointments and to the bank. Dan lived a life trying to demonstrate God’s Love to others. His passion of fishing and hunting hooked him up with life-long friends. He will be greatly missed!

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Joy and sons, Joel Edward Miller, living in Indiana, David Paul (Nicole Lucido) Miller, currently living in Sterling Heights, and Doctor Jonathan Brent Miller, currently living in Kankakee, Illinois. as he furthers his studies in psychiatry. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Dannica Kathleen.

A Funeral Service will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2225 E. Fourteen Mile Road, Birmingham, Thursday, December 30th, at 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. The family kindly requests that masks are worn during the visitation and service. The service will be livestreamed on the church website.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to The H G. Allwardt Seminarian Fund, Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, or, as this too was his passion, An Alliance Defending Freedom! (an agency that promotes true justice and freedom.)
