Obituary for Dana Jean Marra

Dana Jean Marra was called to the Lord on December 8, 2011, after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. Dana was born February 4, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to William and Norma (nee Warman) Crick. She was 58 years old. Dana attended Wylie E. Groves High School, and Oakland University where she earned a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. Dana is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 22 years, Paul D. Marra, and her beloved dogs, Hogan and Ben.

Danas passion was children. After 20 years of untiring service in social work and foster care, she started her own agency, Adoption Options Worldwide, Inc. Her life was dedicated to helping children find loving parents and the right home.

To know Dana was to know a force of nature. She was smart, tenacious, spirited, fun loving and independent. She fought for the underdog and was happiest when she was helping others. She had a great love of animals and made sure she always had rescue dogs as pets. She was often the organizer and life of the party. She was a fierce competitor and hated to lose at euchre or bridge. Dana loved to dance and sing; she was good at both. She left the cooking to Paul. Her life was guided by faith, family, and friends. We shall miss her greatly, but the memories are endless.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dana is survived by her siblings, William (Carmen) Crick Jr., Gayle (Thomas) Fischer, Hollis (Gary) Hambell, Robert Crick, John (Beth) Crick and brother-in-law, Timothy Marra. She was the niece of Virginia and Edward Blaty, Rita Gallagher and Frederick Warman. She was aunt to Justin (Jennifer) Crick; Jordan (Catherine) Crick; Amanda, Michael, and Abigail Hambell; Ashley (Adam) Parrish; Brett, Torre, and Jason Crick. She was great-aunt to Adrianna, Chase and Asha Crick, and Gabriel Parrish. Also surviving are many cousins and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. John Providence Hospital, Southfield, for their wonderful care and compassion.

Family will receive friends from 2-8pm on Monday, December 12, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 13, at 11am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4300 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to either Dana J. Marra Research Fund, c/o University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, (research for esophageal cancer) 428 Church Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 or Michigan Humane Society, Development Department, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025
