Obituary for Constance "Stancey" Henne

Constance “Stancey” Montante Henne passed suddenly and tragically from this life on April 1, 2020. Stancey was 78 years old. Mother, grandmother, educator, coach, cheerleader, friend. Her one rule was: hug her when you arrive, hug her again when you leave, no exceptions. She always had a hug and a smile for everyone.

Stancey was raised in Southeast Michigan surrounded by her large, extended Italian family. Beloved Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Stancey played basketball and field hockey for her Eastern Michigan University teams prior to graduating with Bachelors and Masters degrees. After graduating she worked tirelessly, first as a physical education teacher and then for many years in Community Education. She loved kids, all kids. Her kids and grandkids were her life.

Stancey served her community working in the Michigan Jaycees organization in increasing leadership positions, culminating in her election as President of the Michigan State Jaycee Auxiliary. She traveled the state helping local organizations raise funds and establish charities. Her travels earned her the nickname “Roadrunner”. For her service she was selected as a lifetime member of the Auxiliary.

Stancey loved golf, bridge, and cruises. She cherished the time she spent with family and friends in these pursuits. She was happiest watching her grandkids play sports. Soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball, basketball, football; she loved them all. She was a sideline coach and a vocal cheerleader.

Stancey is survived by her children James (Karen) Henne, Joseph (Elizabeth) Henne, and Anne (Richard) Romano. Grandkids Arvid Sorenson, Ebba (Chris) Haines (Gary Poe), Eva Sorenson, Christoper (Tiffany) Henne (Jane, Charlotte and Eleanor), Caroline (Brody) Bassett, Lucia (Kellen) Peters, Ethan Henne, Talia Smock (Owen Rattner), Devin Smock. She is also survived by her baby brother Gary (Claudia) Montante.
