Obituary for Charles Dick Johns

Charles �Dick� Johns of Troy, died August 8, 2012, at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. He was 81 years old. Dick was born May 8, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Sarah (nee Edwards) and Harry S. Johns. He was raised in the farming community of Noblesville before joining the Navy and the Fleet Marines during the Korean War. Dick graduated from Purdue University in 1959 with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Economics. He began his professional career at Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio. This led to a vibrant 32 year run within the General Motors Corporation before he retired in 1991.

Dick was very involved in his church, St. Paul United Methodist Church, for over 40 years. He loved to play golf, was an avid reader, and history buff. Dick enjoyed his retirement by spending time with the ones he loved the most, his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Shirley. His caring children Theresa (Mike) Barker of Warren, Ohio, Julianne (Rudolf) Albrecht of Royal Oak, and Brian Johns of Waterford. His grandchildren Elizabeth Barker, Andrew Barker, Benjamin Barker, Nathan Albrecht, and Emily Albrecht. His great-grandchildren Justin Barker, McKenna Barker, Olivia Barker, and Lily Barker. His sisters Maryann Lowery, Rebecca Booth, and his Brother James Johns. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Harry Johns and his brother Edward Johns.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 165 E. Square Lake Rd. Bloomfield Hills, Saturday, August 25th, at 2pm.
