Obituary for Celeste M. Laursen

Celeste M. Laursen, of Rochester Hills, died peacefully Thursday afternoon October 27, 2016. Celeste was born September 27, 1925 in Hazel Park, Michigan, one of twelve children to parents Jules and Alice Maurice. She graduated from St. Mary Catholic School in Royal Oak and worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Madison Heights in the tax department.

Celeste met and later married Sterling Laursen. They were married July 23, 1949 in Hazel Park, Michigan and raised three children. Celeste enjoyed fire trucks, trains, crossword puzzles, men in uniform, and beer. She was an avid Detroit Tiger baseball fan as well as a collector of teddy bears, rocks and driftwood. Her greatest joy however came from spending time with her family.

A devoted Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Celeste was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Celeste is survived by her three loving children, Judy Henley, Lynn (Paul) Staszak, and Steven (Pamila) Laursen; five grandchildren, Erick, Chelsea, William, Justin, and Andrew. She is also survived by her brother, Bernard (Mary Lou) Maurice and sisters, Helen (the late Bob) Knox, Jeanne (the late Victor) Shepley, and Rosemary (the late Ron) Vasseur. Celeste is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sterling Laursen.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, 2675 John R. Road, Rochester Hills, Monday, October 31st at 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:30am. Visitation at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (Between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday, October 30th, 2-8pm. Interment in Van Hoosen Jones – Stoney Creek Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
