Obituary for Catherine "Kathy" E. Zessin

Catherine “Kathy” Zessin of Warren, died June 6, 2017. She was 87 years old. Kathy was born October 16, 1929 in Detroit to Emilie (nee Keineth) and Herman Zessin.

Kathy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Oakland University. She was a devoted teacher for St. Thomas - St Peter Lutheran School in Detroit, St Trinity Lutheran School in Pontiac, St Paul Lutheran School in Kewanee, Illinois and Our Shepherd Lutheran School in Birmingham before her retirement. Kathy was a member and organist at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham as well as sharing her gift of music with St Augustine Lutheran Church of Troy.. She loved and painted abstract and modern art, travel, golf, ceramics and calligraphy.

Kathy is survived by her beloved sister, Lucille (the late Robert) Klebba, nieces, Karen (Jack) Dalzotto and Janet (Ray) Ciechorski, and nephew, David (Ann) Klebba. She is also survived by her great-nephews, Jack and Jeff Dalzotto and the many students she was so devoted to throughout the years. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Emilie and Herman Zessin.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (Between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Friday, June 9th, from 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2225 E. 14 Mile Rd., Birmingham, Saturday, June 10th at 11am. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10am. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit.
