Obituary for Carol Gillespie Black

Carol Gillespie Black, a life-long resident of Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills, died April 19, 2021. She was 69 years old. Carol was born October 30, 1951 in Detroit to Shirley (nee Rees) and John “Jack” Gillespie. She graduated from Marian High School in 1969 and University of Dayton in 1973. Carol worked at Brother Rice High School for many years.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carol was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Richard, son, Ryan (Sarah) Black and daughter, Julie (Justin) Kral. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Will, Emma, Nora, Neil, Brady, and Rees and siblings, Marty Gillespie, Mig (Dave) Young, and Matt Gillespie. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Sunday, April 25th, 2-7pm. Due to COVID restrictions and Carol's overwhelming number of friends, in-person attendance at the Funeral Mass is not open to the public. However, friends may watch via livestream at on Monday, April 26th at 1pm.

Final Resting Place will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Memorials appreciated to Brother Rice High School or Mott's Children Hospital, Ann Arbor.
