Obituary for Brian C. Thompson

Brian Craig Thompson, age 45 of Detroit, died June 21, 2019 at his parent’s home in Bloomfield Hills, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle against metastatic melanoma. He was born March 14, 1974 in Muskegon, Michigan to Craig and Patricia Thompson. Brian was a 1992 graduate from Seaholm High School in Birmingham and attended Wayne State University.

Brian was known to everyone he met as selfless, genuine and caring. He had a warm sense of humor and loved to laugh. He delighted in sharing the wonderful, funny and absurd. Brian took great pride in doing everything that he encountered well, both within his work and personal life. He was an innovator and technologist and deeply enjoyed photography, electronics and computing. Brian loved all music, and one of his biggest talents was as an audiophile. He had an outstanding ear for installing and perfecting acoustics and continuously tweaking them to match the built environment, whether it was the College of Engineering auditorium or Cliff Bell’s Bar downtown. He also enjoyed cooking with and discovering non-traditional foods like century eggs, beef tongue, hot sauces, rare seafood, squirrel chili, duck, and was constantly inventing his own recipes.

Brian is survived by his beloved parents, Craig and Patricia Thompson; loving brothers, Rob (Christine Bossler) Thompson, Michael (Betsy) Thompson, David (Julie Faust) Thompson, and Patrick (Janelle Kaufman) Thompson. He is also survived by his grandmother, Geraldine “Gerry” Thompson; and multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Brian is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Thompson, and Michael and Kathlyn Kuzma.

A funeral service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) on Thursday at 11am. The family will receive friends during visitation on Wednesday 4-8pm.
