Obituary for Anne Rouce

Marion Anne Rouce of Birmingham died peacefully at her home on Friday, August 30, 2019 in the loving care of her family. Anne, who was 88 years old, was born in Northhampton County, Virginia on June 3, 1931. Her parents were Delitha (Johnson) and John Colonna.

Anne grew up in Cape Charles, Virginia and attended James Madison University, graduating in 1952 with a BS in Education with an English Minor. She met her husband, Richard John Rouce, who was in the Air Force. They married in 1957 and lived in various places including Minneapolis, Ohio, and Michigan. Richard worked in advertising and the couple spent a lot of time traveling and entertaining clients.

Anne taught in both Ohio and Michigan. Additionally, she was a social worker for Hennepin County in Minneapolis and Northampton County, VA. at the Eastville Courthouse. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Detroit. Anne did graduate work at the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota.

Anne enjoyed her winters in Florida and spending time with her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend to many. She had an ever-present smile, a positive, gentle spirit, and was always up for an adventure. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Anne is survived by her loving children, Richard “Jeff” Rouce (Christine) of Royal Oak, Michigan; Phillip Rouce (Sam) of Bradenton, Florida; and Diane Powers (Dan) of Hamburg, Michigan, five grandchildren: Shane Peacock, Evan Rouce, Elisabeth Rouce, Connor Powers, and Izabel Powers and her brother, John Colonna. Anne is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard.

A Memorial Service with be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Saturday, September 21 at 2pm. Friends may visit beginning at 12noon.
